LA Comic-Con COVID-19 News

If you’re attending LA-Comic-Con this weekend, you’ll want to budget some extra time–even more than you might have for the San Diego Comic-Con Special Edition last weekend.

At SDCC Special Edition, you got checked once and were able to bypass the COVID-19 check line by flashing your wristband. Not so with LA Comic-Con according to NRPR, the PR company for LA Comic-Con.

Every day you attend LA Comic-Con you will be required to pass through a COVID-19 check line AND a security line.

In order to ensure the health and safety for everyone attending this year’s event, attendees will need to show proof of full vaccination upon entry every day. For those who do not have proof of full vaccination, they may show negative COVID-19 test results from within the last 72 hours. There will also be free PCR testing on site that will provide results within 15 minutes. There will be 20 magnetometers employed to help speed up both COVID-19 and safety checks.

I’ve had PCR testing more than once and be sure to budget more time than 15 minutes. Also check to make sure that the person administrating the test is following instructions. If one person tells you to scan the Quick Response code (QR code), but sure to insist on it, even if the other person might not want you so. Had this slight mix-up at a museum event, where the person who handed me the test told me to scan, but the person who administered the test wouldn’t let me. That led to a minor delay.

All attendees–press, professional and volunteers–will be in the same COVID-19 check line.

All attendees will proceed through the same COVID-19 checkpoints, as well as the security checkpoints, before being admitted into the convention.

Once in the convention center, there will be no other checkpoints. For those who have been socially active, some places ask you to flash your cards and IDs twice. That happened to me just Monday evening.

You might have an app that acts was a digital wallet. This can work as well.

Attendees can either show their physical card for their full COVID-19 vaccinations, or use a digital wallet that provides verifiable credentials for COVID-19, like the Liquid Avatar Verifiable Credential Ecosystem (“LAVCE”). To ensure this process runs smoothly and efficiently, those wanting to use mobile digital wallets to prove full vaccination should set their information up before arriving.
Liquid Avatar Verifiable Credential Ecosystem is one of the sponsors of LA Comic-Con. This might be convenient for those who don’t carry more than a wallet, however, I’ve been asked to use two other apps for verification for other events so I’m not sure this one app from LAVCE will work universally.
Children under the age of 2 are exempt from the COVID-19 pre-entry requirements.
  • There will be three entrances — one in the South Hall and two in the West Hall
  • All convention goers will be required to wear face coverings while attending the event
  • All cleaning standards from LA County and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) will be followed before, in between and after all sessions
  • Extra space: With well over 1.2 million-square feet of exhibition space (double the space from 2019), fans will have plenty of room to spread out and maintain safe distances

L.A. Comic Con 2021 will offer virtual, streaming and online shopping content for fans who are unable, or prefer not, to attend the in-person event. See www.comicconla.com for more information on digital tickets.
