Are you ready for the holidays? To get in the mood, you might start with Christmas trees and making an appointment with Santa at your local shopping spots before charging into the holiday shopping madness. If you own a pooch or cat, take advantage of the Santa photo opportunities.

Get a sugar rush with an ice cream concoction at Fair Oaks Pharmacy, our favorite corner soda fountain and pharmacy (1526 Mission St, (626) 799-1414) and you can check out the themed Christmas trees.

On Saturday, Dec. 7 (9 a.m. to 11 a.m.), El Cholo will be hosting breakfast with Santa ($15-$45). Westfield Santa Anita (Dec. 15) is also hosting a breakfast with Santa event at the California Pizza Kitchen (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/breakfast-with-santa-at-california-pizza-kitchen-tickets-81350963923?aff=ebdssbdestsearch).

Santa will also be at The Paseo Friday, Dec. 20, Sing-a-long movie (5 p.m. to 8 p.m.) For holiday hours, check with individual shops and businesses.

Glendale Galleria (https://www.glendalegalleria.com/en/visit/holiday-hours/) will be open on Thanksgiving and open every day of that weekend extra early.

  • Thanksgiving: 6 p.m. to midnight
  • Black Friday: 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • Sundays-Thursdays: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Fridays-Saturdays: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Late-night cruising will give you a more leisurely experience and parking will be less hellish.

Westfield Santa Anita will also open at 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving and give shoppers and extra opportunity to buy the right gift on the weekend of Black Friday.

South Lake‘s annual Holidayfest is Dec. 7, from noon to 5 p.m. (345 S. Lake Avenue). Expect in-store specials and promotions, photos with Santa and live music plus a scavenger hunt.

The Pasadena Playhouse District (playhousedistrict.orglights its tree on Dec. 5, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. There’ll be live music, a performance by Bob Baker Marionettes, and maybe even some snow. Theater or movie tickets make great stocking stuffers. Vroman’s is just down the street.

For your resident geek, there are many choices. On South Lake, Williams Sonoma(142 S Lake Ave) has exclusives like a $100 R2D2 popcorn popper and you can order Le Creuset Star Wars stuff. Don’t forget that The Dinosaur Farm in South Pasadena (1510 Mission St.) which just turned 25. Now inside the store is Kidd’s Jewelry Heistwhere you or your little ones with the help of their design team can make original jewelry.

Got a fabric geek around? Check out Kimono no Kobeya on Lake (380 S Lake Ave). Don’t forget the antiques Hodgson’s Antiques (1005 Mission St, (626) 429-2458) or Yoko Antiques (1018 Mission St # 2, (626) 441-4758) in South Pasadena for your collectibles. If LPs are your beloved’s passion, check out Canterbury Records (CanterburyRecords.com) in the Playhouse district or PooBah Records (Poobah.com) down East Colorado.

For your fashionista pet owner, The Urban Pet store ( 900 Fair Oaks Ave., (626) 403-9100) is the place. Your foodie  would appreciate a gift from Sur la Table in Old Pas or your foodie with furry friends might like the Dog Bakery (6 W. Colorado Blvd.).

Little fashionistas can find high-end jewelry to fit their wrists and their fingers with Tiffany’s new T collection in Old Pas, but also consider the Huntington Library gift shop.

Want to get something for that artsy person? Shop our local museums: Norton Simon, Huntington Library, Gamble Houseor USC Pacific Asia Museum, the Pasadena Museum of History (pasadenahistory.org) or the Creative Arts Group Gallery(creativeartsgroup.org) in Sierra Madre (108 N. Baldwin Ave., Sierra Madre). The Creative Arts gallery features works by local artists.

Glendale Galleria Pet Pictures with Santa every Monday until Dec. 16. Dogs and cats only. You can make your reservations online (GlendaleGalleria.com).

Old Pasadena Yappy Holidays (Dec. 14). This is a dog-only event that features all-new holiday photo props and  a free Yappy Hour bandana (while supplies last) and tasty samples from The Dog Bakery.

Pasadena Humane Society Whisker Wonderland Holiday Pet Photos (Dec. 7) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Each group receives two framed prints and a link to your digital photos for $25. Dogs must be leashed and cats must be in carriers. Reservation are available on Eventbrite.com or visit PasadenaHumane.org for more information.

Petco Pasadena (Dec. 7, 14 and 15; 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.). Get a digital portrait  of your pet and give because 100% of your $9.95 donation benefits local homeless pets in your community through the Petco Foundation.
