You have to have someone who can make the audience laugh and make snappy remarks. We’re depending on standup comedian D.L. Hughley to do it and he has a partner who knows how to steer a celebrity to the top: Cheryl Burke.
Hughley starred in the 1998 series “The Hughleys” which was about a family who moved out of South Los Angeles (a predominately black ghetto area) to West Hills (a predominately white neighborhood) in the San Fernando Valley. The sitcom shows how the family adjusts to the new neighborhood. Starting out on ABC, the last two years the show was on UPN.
Hughley was also one of four comedians featured in Spike Lee’s 2000 film “The Original Kings of Comedy.” The others were Steve Harvey, Cedric the Entertainer and Bernie Mac. The movie was filmed in two nights in front of an audience in Charlotte, NC at the Charlotte Coliseum and the comedians cover topics such as African-American culture, race, religion and family.
D.L. Hughley was also the host of “D.L. Hughley Breaks the News” for CNN from 2008-2009.
Hughley just published a book in June of last year, “I Want You to Shut the Fuck Up: How the Audacity of Dopes Is Ruining America.”

If anyone can teach someone to dance, it would be Burke. Burke has won the mirrorball trophy twice: season 2 with singer Drew Lachey and season 3 with retired football player Emmitt Smith.
Hughley also has a sympathetic back story. His wife and he have three kids–two daughters and a son. The son, Kyle, has Asperger syndrome, something Hughley has spoken about previously.
