The ladies jammed on My Jam Night during the second week of “Dancing with the Stars” Season 19 and one of the older female celebrities showed that she had enough style and stamina to go all the way.
It was the woman who Mikhail Baryshnikov told was too stocky (or not stalky enough) for the American Ballet Theatre who ruled the dance floor. Actress Lea Thompson and Artem Chigvintsev performed a jive that earned three nines and one eight (from head judge Len Goodman). Thompson is 53–two years older than Donny Osmond who was 51 when he won the mirrorball trophy. Jennifer Grey was 50 when she won. Thompson certainly looks like she could do it.
Thompson and Chigvintsev were only one point ahead of the 25-year-old Janel Parish and Valentin Chmerkovskiy with a 34 for a smooth foxtrot. The 19-year-old Bethany Mota and Derek Hough were third with 33 points, also dancing the foxtrot.
The oldest woman, 72-year-old Betsey Johnson showed a different side, trusting her dance pro partner, Tony Dovolani, to make the transition to sophisticated lady for a foxtrot. Johnson was tied with
The oldest contestant was not at the bottom this week. Tommy Chong, 76, was down there though. He’s still amusing to listen to and his partner Peta Murgatroyd is smart. Johnson, Chong and Smiley were tied for second to the bottom with 28. Waltrip was that the bottom with 24.
Michael Waltrip has a lot of personality on the dance floor although his posture needs to improve and his extension needs work as well.
We weren’t disappointed to see Lolo go because Lolo Jones didn’t quite have the partnering skills on a social level and was awkward with Keoikantse Motsepe, the new pro from South Africa. This week, we’ll be disappointed in tomorrow’s elimination. This current group is fun.
