Fans of “Dancing with the Stars” know that there has to be an athlete and a football player does better than a basketball player, snowboarder or wrestler. This season, the Baltimore Ravens’ Jacoby Jones will be dancing with Karina Smirnoff.jacobyjones

  • Jacoby Rashi’d Jones
  • Age: 28
  • Birthdate: 11 July 1984
  • Born: New Orleans, LA.
  • Sign: Cancer

Jones has, like fellow DWTS celeb Aly Raisman, been featured on the cover of “Sports Illustrated.” Raisman was on the cover as a member of the Fierce Five. Jones was solo. As a wide receiver, Jones played for Lane College, a historically black college in Jackson, Tennessee. He was drafted by the Houston Texas in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft.

At Super Bowl XLVII, Jones had a 108-yard kickoff return for a touchdown (the longest play in the Super Bowl’s history) and is the first Raven to post multiple kickoff returns for a touchdown in one season. He was an AFC Special Teams Player of the Wee, AFC Special Teams Player of the Month and All-Pro and the PFW/PFWA first team All-Pro.

Jones’ childhood home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina and so was his high school, Abramson High. So expect a Hurricane Katrina update.

All of this won’t matter as much as when Jones will take his shirt off and will he be willing to wear spandex. The NFL has a good record with DWTS. Season three winner was Emmitt Smith. Season six had Jason Taylor with Edyta Sliwinska finish second to another athlete, Kristi Yamaguchi. Warren Sapp and Kym Johnson would also finish second behind Brooke Burke and Derek Hough for season seven. Season 12 had another NFL winner with Hines Ward and Kym Johnson. Season 13 was also good for the NFL with Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd winning over Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas.

This season, there will be an ice skater (Dorothy Hamill) and a gymnast (Alexandra Raisman competing so the level of competition should be fierce. Karina Smirnoff isn’t the most dependable performer but she did finish first with J.R. Martinez during season 13 and was second with Mario Lopez during season 2. She fell short of the semi-finals last season with Apolo Anton Ohno (All-Stars).

So it may come down to couple chemistry and dance Jones actually dance. We know he can dance in the end zone. Will Jones continue the NFL tradition on DWTS?
