Celebrate Jack Kirby and Stan Lee

Today marks the anniversary of Jack Kirby’s birth. He would have been 95 years old today. He worked with Joe Simon and met a guy named Stan Lee (or at least the guy who became Stan Lee).1986 - Jack Kirby

While there has been a short documentary on Jack Kirby (“Jack Kirby: Storyteller” which is available on YouTube) that was part of the 2-DVD extended version of the 2005 “Fantastic Four” movie, the website Jack Kirby Museum is trying to raise money to film their own documentary. After all, Kirby wasn’t always in agreement with the movie studios so it might be nice to hear his side of things.

The Jack Kirby Museum is also raising money to make themselves into a brick-and-mortar museum, but they also are involved in raising money to assistant former comic book artists: Kirby4Heroes.

Stan Lee is alive and kicking and still promoting himself and his creations. He has his own Stan Lee Foundation. In 2010, three fledgling directors made a documentary on Lee, “With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story”  that I recently wrote a review for RogerEbert.com.

Stan Lee will be attending a screening of the film on Saturday, 15 September 2012 as part of the Stan Lee ComiKaze Expo in Los Angeles.
