Wondercon begins today!

You can still get in to Wondercon, but it is too late to get a three-day badge or Saturday admission. That means you can go today or Sunday still at reasonable prices.

So what’s happening on Friday?

From 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., curator Ron Diamond moderates a Q&A session about Pixar Academy Award-winning director Jan Pinkava. Diamond will also introduce animated short films from Russia, France, Great Britain, Canada, Norway, the Netherlands and the US. All five of the 87th Academy Award Nominees for Best Animated Short Film, leading contenders for the 88th Academy Awards, as well as Pixar’s newest short, Lava, will be featured.

There’s also a special panel commemorating the 50th anniversary of TOS Star Trek’s second pilot “Where No Man Has Gone Before.” Access Hollywood’s Scott Mantz moderates a panel that includes Edward Gross (The 50 Year Mission from St. Martin’s Press), ChaseMasterson (Deep Space Nine, The Flash), Daren Dochterman (visual effects supervisor,ST: TMP director’s edition) and Robert Meyer Burnett (Free Enterprise, ST: TNG Blu-ray editions) from 1 to 2 p.m.

From 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., there will be a panel on WonderCon Anaheim’s special guestartist Neal Adams (Batman, X-Men, Ms Mystic) , who will discuss his career.

Warner Bros. TV will host special preview screenings of “The Flash” and “Gotham” as well as sneak peaks of “iZombie” and “Teen Titans Go!”

Want to get technical? There’s a panel on “The Science of Star Wars” with Fon Davis(production designer, Star Wars prequel movies), Bobak Ferdowsi (NASA flight engineer), Kieran Dickson (editor, Outerplaces.com), Travis Langley (Star Wars Psychology), and moderator Jenna Busch (Legion of Leia).

Later in the evening, you can learn how the Star Wars universe is going steampunk. with panelists  Christopher “Dude Vader” Canole,Shawn “Obi-Shawn” Crosby, Alex “Dapper Fett” Vargas, and moderator Anastasia Hunter (chair of Gaslight Gathering Steampunk Convention).

Futurama fans, there will be a cast reunion with Billy West, Maurice LaMarche and Phil LaMarr at the Hollywood Science Fiction Museum booth (#1486).  In addition, the booth will feature two great photo ops for fans: TOS Star Trek Captain’s chair and a TARDIS.

Friday only badges are $27 for adults 18 and up with ages 13-17 at $14 and US military and seniors also $14.

Sunday only badges are $16 for adults and $8 for juniors, military and seniors.
