This month’s ,Fusion Friday will be happening at Pacific Asia Museum on Friday, June 17, 2011 from 7:30 to 10:30 pm. The night’s theme is “Dragons and Drums” and will feature Taiko drums, a dragon boat you can paddle, and a dragon project to bring home. Don’t miss the dragons dancing and heating it up in the courtyard! Gourmet food trucks Dumpling Station and The Sweets Truck will be in the parking lot. Fusion Fridays is a summertime evening series that mixes art, music by DJ Tony Cheung, dance and demos, cultural activities, and food from some of LA’s most popular gourmet trucks. The galleries will also be open during Fusion Friday. This is a great chance to see Through the Colonial Lens: Photographs of 19th and 20th Century India as well as Meiji: Japan Rediscovered. Asian-inspired and cocktail attire is highly encouraged. The event is free to museum members and $15 for non-members
Pacific Asia Museum has a rich history of bringing people and cultures together in a setting that promotes conversation and cross-cultural understanding. Fusion Fridays takes that mission to a new level, mixing the arts with other media in order to attract a young professional demographic and increase the museum’s visibility throughout the city. Keeping in mind that many people are hindered by traditional museum hours and event formats, Fusion Fridays aims to break down those barriers by keeping the museum doors open until late in the evening, bringing in diverse forms of entertainment to encourage new visitors, and building community partnerships
