There’s a lot of misinformation going around about the shooting in Minnesota. One of them is related to a person named as Roberto Munoz.
According to Steele County Republicans, the “Minnesota Dad” was indicted on in June of 2025 of assaulting a federal officer.
According to that conservative news venue, the full name of the person is “Roberto Carlos Munoz-Guatemala” and he is a “convicted sex felon” from Mexico.
The press released from the Justice Department reports that “Roberto Carlos Munoz-Guatemala” was found guilty on 20 December 2025 of “Assault on a Federal Officer with a Dangerous and Deadly Weapon and Causing Bodily Injury.”
The press announcement uses the dateline of St. Paul.
On June 17, 2025, law enforcement officers attempted to arrest Munoz-Guatemala, a convicted sex offender, on an immigration order. Agents made a traffic stop of Munoz-Guatemala. The defendant was uncooperative and refused to follow directions. After warning Munoz-Guatemala several times, an agent broke the back window so that he could open the vehicle from the inside. Munoz-Guatemala then accelerated his car. As he sped away, the agent’s arm became trapped between the seat and the car frame. Munoz-Guatemala dragged the federal agent for more than 100 yards, while weaving back and forth in an attempt to shake the agent from the car. The agent was eventually jarred free from the car but suffered significant injuries to his arms and hand.
The Daily Mail picks up the story on 8 January 2026, as a result of the recent shooting of Renee Good in Minneapolis on 7 January 2026.
The incident with Munoz-Guatamala occurred in Bloomington, Minnesota. The shooting of Good was in Minneapolis at Portland Ave and E. 34th Street. According to Google Maps that Minneapolis cross street location is about 8 miles away from Bloomington or 10-15 minutes by car.
A CNN report which gives details about Ross and his service in the military, border patrol and ICE, correct the name to “Roberto Carlos Muñoz-Guatemala.”
Ross served in Iraq from 2004 to 2005 with the Indiana National Guard, he testified in court, and then joined Border Patrol in 2007. He said he worked with the agency near El Paso, Texas, where he worked on intelligence about “cartels and drug smuggling,” before joining ICE in 2015.
What the meme gets wrong is that on 7 January 2026, ICE was not looking for an illegal alien who was a convicted sex offender. That person pictured, Roberto Munoz-Guatamala, had already been apprehended in June 2025 and was in custody. He is a citizen of Mexico and not Guatemala.
While the June arrest did involve the ICE agent Jonathan Ross, is should have no particular bearing on the shooting of Good nearly six months later.
